The prevention of child abuse and neglect is a global public health priority due to its seriousゴ longゾlasting effects on personalゴ socialゴ and economic outcomesズ The Children At Risk Model ┑ChARM┒ is a wraparoundゾinspired intervention that coordinates evidenceゾbased parentingゾ and homeゾvisiting programmesゴ along with communityゾbased supportsゴ in order to address the multiple and complex needs of families at risk of child abuse or neglectズ The study comprises a multiゾcentreゴ randomised controlled trialゴ with embedded economic and process evaluationsズ The study is being conducted in two childゾwelfare agencies within socially disadvantaged settings in Irelandズ Families with children aged ≠ゾ÷÷ years who are at risk of maltreatment ┑n 3 >×┒ will be randomised to either the =×ゾweek ChARM programme ┑n 3 =>┒ or to standard care ┑n 3 =>┒ using a ÷ジ÷ allocation ratioズ The primary outcomes are incidences of child maltreatment and child behaviour and wellbeingズ Secondary outcomes include quality of parentゾchild relationshipsゴ parental stressゴ mental healthゴ substance useゴ recorded incidences of substantiated abuseゴ and outゾofゾhome placementsズ Assessments will take place at preゾinterventionゴ and at ≦ゾ and ÷=ゾmonth followゾup periodsズ The study is the first evaluation of a wraparoundゾinspired interventionゴ incorporating evidenceゾbased programmesゴ designed to prevent child abuse and neglect within intact familiesズ The findings offer a unique contribution to the developmentゴ implementation and evaluation of effective interventions in the prevention of child abuse and neglectズ The trial is registered with the International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number Register ┑DOI ÷×ズ÷÷∞≦┄ISRCTN÷≠≦<<≦××ゴ Date of registrationジ ≠ June =×÷>┒ズ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ ÷ = ≠ ≠ < ≠
